My Dear Sir

Will you have the kindness to tell me whether Mr Schweitzerbarth be the real Simon Pure to whom I am to entrust the Clichés of your new work on Domestication1   I shall of course make him pay some thing above the cost of the mere Electros2 to go towards diminishing our expenses in the Woodcuts

Wie ich von Herrn Ch. Darwin höre ist dessen neues Werk: The Variation of Animals & Plants usw bereits unter der Presse und da derselbe mir gestattet auch von diesem Büche eine deutsche Ausgabe zu veranstalten, so wende ich mich hiermit an Sie mit der Bitte mir von den Holzschnitten dazu güteClichés machen zu lassen. Bei den Orchideen4 waren die Herren Williams & Norgate so gefällig das Paket nach Leipzig zu senden, wo selbst ich diesen auch die Kosten für die Clichés bezalte; vielleicht Könnte es wieder so gehalten werden.

Ich danke Ihnen zum Voraus für die gütige Besorgung der Sache und zeichen mit collegialischer Hochachtung | E Schweizerbart5

Having heard from Mr Ch. Darwin that his new work: The Variation of Animals & Plants etc will soon go to press and that he has allowed me to prepare a German edition of this book, I now apply to you with a request to provide me with clichés of the woodcuts. In the case of Orchids,2 Williams & Norgate kindly sent the package to Leipzig where I myself paid for the cost of the clichés; perhaps this could be handled the same way.

I thank you in advance for your kind attention in this matter and remain with collegial respect | E Schweizerbart3
