Footnotes

The year is established by the relationship between this letter and the letter from George Henslow, 12 March 1866.
Henslow refers to his letter of 12 March 1866 and his summary of ‘Climbing plants’ (Henslow 1866c), upon which CD apparently commented in a letter that has not been found.

Bibliography

‘Climbing plants’: On the movements and habits of climbing plants. By Charles Darwin. [Read 2 February 1865.] Journal of the Linnean Society (Botany) 9 (1867): 1–118.

Summary

Forgot to thank CD for his praise of tendril paper [see 4944].
