Absence from Home has prevented my answering your letter of the       earlier

I have much pleasure in complying with the request of your Club & enclose 2 photographs, one of which may be selected & the other thrown away.2 I have added my autograph, but I am not sure whether this what you wished me to do

The year is conjectured from handwritten notes on the letter reading ‘?1876’ and ‘CD 76’.
The letter to which this is a reply has not been found, and the club has not been identified. CD was elected a member of the Northampton Natural History Society and Field Club in 1876 (Correspondence vol. 24, letter to G. C. Druce, 25 April 1876).
