My dear Mr Darwin

I have the greatest pleasure in signing the enclosed certificate though I have strongly resisted the depreciation of systematic Botany now prevalent in Germany   I have never underrated the paramount importance of physiological studies especially when carried out as Mr Francis Darwin has been doing1

Ever yours sincerely | George Bentham
