Robert Augustus Chesebrough
1837–1933
American chemist. Discovered petroleum jelly at the Pennsylvania oil fields in 1859. Set up a factory for the purification of petroleum jelly in 1870. From 1872, the purified product was sold under the trade name Vaseline.
