Hermann Müller-Thurgau
1850–1927
Swiss botanist and oenologist. Doctorate in botany, Würzburg, 1874; assistant to Julius Sachs, 1876. Director of the plant physiological research station of the Royal Prussian Institute for Pomology and Viticulture, Giesenheim, 1876–90. Director, Experimental Station and School for Pomology, Viticulture and Horticulture, Wädenswil, 1891–1924. Professor of botany, Zurich Polytechnic, 1902. Investigated several aspects of viticulture and wine production; created the Müller-Thurgau grape variety.
