John James Stewart Perowne
1823–1904
Clergyman and Biblical scholar. Born in Bengal. BA, Cambridge, 1845. Fellow of Corpus Christi from 1849; select preacher to the college. Moved to Wales after his marriage in 1862 and held a number of clerical positions there. Hulsean Professor of divinity, Cambridge, 1875–78. Dean of Peterborough from 1878. Bishop of Worcester, 1891–1901.
