Rudolf Peter Heinrich (Rudolf) Heidenhain

1834–97

German physiologist. Studied at Königsberg (Kaliningrad), Halle (Saale), and Berlin. Research assistant to Emil Du Bois-Reymond. Habilitated in Halle, 1857; professor of physiology and histology and director of the physiological laboratory in Breslau (Wrocław), 1859. Worked on cell physiology.
