French geologist. Director of the Sèvres porcelain factory, 1800–47. Professor of mineralogy, Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle, 1822. Studied the fossiliferous strata of Norway and erratics in Sweden. Foreign member, Royal Society, 1825.
