Henry Cowper Marshall
1808–84
Businessman and politician. Son of the wealthy industrialist John Marshall (1765–1845; ODNB). Married Catherine Anne Lucy Spring Rice in 1837. Senior member of Marshall and Company, flax spinners, Holbeck, Leeds. Owner of Derwent Island and St Herbert’s Island in the Lake District. Mayor of Leeds, 1842–3; president, Leeds Chamber of Commerce, 1854.
