Henry Lee Higginson
1834–1919
American soldier, merchant, and philanthropist. Major in the Union army in the American Civil War; successful merchant and stockbroker in Boston. Anti-slavery campaigner and founder of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Married Ida Agassiz, daughter of Louis Agassiz, in 1863.
