1817–94

Physician and microscopist. Member of the Royal College of Surgeons, London, 1839; diploma of the Society of Apothecaries, 1841. MD, University College, London, 1851. Worked at the Royal Free Hospital, London. Established a tuberculosis sanatorium at Ventnor, Isle of Wight, in 1868. Known for his work on public health and food safety.
