Karl Robert Eduard (Eduard) von Hartmann
1842–1906
German philosopher. Studied natural science and philosophy in Berlin. Became a popular transcendental realist philosopher in the early 1870s. Lived in Berlin as a private scholar, turning down university positions because of his health. Considered an important forerunner of Freud for his work on the unconscious.
