Born in Königsberg, Prussia (now Kaliningrad, Russia) as Elisa Johanna Maria Gerhards, daughter of Wilhelm Gerhards and his wife Louise Amalia. Married Hermann August Hagen in Königsberg in 1851. In Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, as Eliza Hagen, 1880.
