Charles Frédéric Girard
1822–95
French-born zoologist and physician. Student and assistant of Louis Agassiz at the College de Neuchâtel, Switzerland, and from 1847 at Harvard University. Assistant to Spencer Fullerton Baird at the Smithsonian Institution, 1850–60. MD, Georgetown College, 1856. In France, 1860–3, returning with medical supplies for the Confederate Army. After the war settled in Paris, where he established a medical practice.
