Philip Burnard Ayres
1813–63
Surgeon and botanist. Pupil of John Lindley; studied cryptogams. Practised medicine in Thame, Oxfordshire, for ten years. Lecturer on chemistry at Charing Cross Hospital; physician to the Islington dispensary, 1851. Edited the Pharmaceutical Times. Superintendent of quarantine on Mauritius, 1856–63.
