Emily Maria Thorley
1833–1917
Sister of Catharine Ann Thorley, the governess at Down House between 1850 and 1856. Daughter of Elizabeth Mary and John Thorley, a solicitor of Tarporley, Cheshire. Acted as governess to the Darwin children at Ilkley in October 1859.
