William Scoresby

1789–1857

Clergyman and arctic scientist. Served as a captain in the Greenland fishery before entering Queens’ College, Cambridge in 1824. Vicar of Bradford, 1839–47. Made a voyage to Australia to carry out magnetic observations, 1856. Published scientific works relating to the Arctic seas. FRS 1824.
