Maximilian (Max) Schmidt
1834–88
German veterinary surgeon and zoologist. Studied veterinary medicine in Stuttgart and Berlin. Established a veterinary practice in Frankfurt am Main in 1856. Director of the Zoological Gardens from 1859. Director of Berlin Zoological Gardens from 1885.
