Entomologist. Contributed articles on Coleoptera to the Weekly Intelligencer, the Zoologist, and the Entomologist’s Annual. Offered a position on the staff of the Entomologist’s Monthly Magazine, 1864. Contributed to Zoological Record from 1870; later became its editor. Elected fellow of the Zoological Society of London, 1874. Librarian of the Royal Geographical Society, 1875–85. Married Isabella Sophia, second daughter of George Robert Waterhouse, in 1867.
