Thomas Rivers
1798–1877
Nurseryman. Son of Thomas Rivers (1770–1844). Succeeded to the family business in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, in 1827. Specialised in the cultivation of roses and fruit. Author of works on rose and fruit culture; contributed extensively to gardening journals. A founder of the British Pomological Society, 1854.
