Charles Christopher Parry

1823–90

British-born physician and botanist. After a short period in medical practice, joined the geological survey of Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota in 1848. Appointed botanist to the United States and Mexican boundary survey in 1849. The first botanist appointed by the United States Department of Agriculture. Engaged in numerous expeditions of botanical exploration, in particular in the western United States.
