Thomas Oldham

1816–78

Irish geologist. Chief geological assistant to the Geological Survey of Ireland, 1839–50. Professor of geology, Trinity College, Dublin, 1845–51. In 1849, discovered in the rocks of Bray Head, county Wicklow, fossils or organic marks, which were named Oldhamia, after him. Director, Geological Survey of India, 1850–76. FRS 1848.
