Joachim John Monteiro

1833–78

Mining engineer and zoologist. Resident in Angola from 1858. Involved in trading and mining operations; engaged by the Western African Malachite Copper Mines Company to develop a concession at Bembe, 1858. Author of papers on African ornithology. Associate of the Royal School of Mines; corresponding member of the Zoological Society.
