David Landsborough
1779–1854
Scottish clergyman and naturalist. Studied at Edinburgh University. Church of Scotland minister to Stevenston, Ayrshire, 1811–43. Carried out field studies on the Ayrshire coast and on Arran. Minister of the Scottish Free Kirk at Saltcoats, 1843–54. Gave lectures throughout Britain. Dredged in the Firth of Clyde with James Smith of Jordanhill. Published popular works as well as scholarly papers.
