Jerome Henry Kidder
1842–89
American physician and naturalist. BA, Harvard, 1862. MD, Maryland, 1866. Assistant surgeon in the US Navy, 1866–76; surgeon, 1876–84. Surgeon and naturalist to the transit of Venus expedition to Kerguelen Island, 1874–5; after which he spent a year at the Smithsonian Institution studying and publishing on the material obtained. In charge of the naval laboratory, later the Museum of Hygiene, in Washington from 1879.
