Robert Hartmann
1831/2–93
German anatomist, zoologist and ethnologist. Studied medicine and natural sciences at Berlin, receiving his doctorate in 1856. Participated in a research trip to Egypt and the Sudan, 1859–60. Lecturer in zoology and comparative physiology, agricultural academy, Proskau (Prószków), 1865. Professor of anatomy, Berlin, 1867. Co-founder of the Zeitschrift für Ethnologie, 1869. Wrote major ethnological studies of African peoples.
