Edward Hammond Hargraves

1816–91

Emigrated to Sydney, Australia in 1832. Gold-miner in California, 1849–51. Returned to Australia with the aim of gaining a government award for the discovery of an Australian goldfield. In 1851 he found gold specimens at Guyong, New South Wales.
