William Griffith
1810–45
Botanist. Travelled extensively in India, making natural history collections with the aim of compiling a flora of India. Superintendent of the Calcutta botanic garden and professor of botany at the Calcutta Medical College, 1842–4. Died of hepatitis in Malacca.
