Robert Kaye Greville

1794–1866

Botanist, entomologist, and social reformer. President, Botanical Society of Edinburgh, 1839, 1846, and 1866; honorary secretary, from circa 1861 until 1866. Edited the Amethyst, or Christian’s Annual, 1832–4; secretary of the Sabbath Alliance; one of the compilers of the Church of England hymn-book (1838). Vice-president of the Anti-slavery Convention, 1840. Earned a living as a landscape painter in his later years.
