Jacques Étienne (Jacques) Gay
1786–1864
Swiss-born botanist and civil servant. Moved to Paris in 1811; appointed to the office of the senate. Secretary to the Comité des pétitions. Published several botanical monographs. A founder of the Société botanique de France, 1854. Possessed a large, richly documented, and excellently prepared herbarium, which was sold after his death.
