Elie Magloire (Elias) Durand
1794–1873
French-born pharmacist and botanist. Pharmacist in the French army, 1813–14. Opened a drug store in Philadelphia in 1825, introducing many foreign medicines to the United States. Elected to the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences, 1825; to the American Philosophical Society, 1854. Vice-president of the College of Pharmacy, 1844.
