Edward Darwin
1782–1829
Army officer. Eldest son of Erasmus Darwin (1731–1802) and his second wife, Elizabeth. Initially worked as an attorney’s clerk and then became a cavalry officer; retired early to Mackworth, near Derby. Suffered from dropsy.
