Scottish gardener; orchid specialist. Gardener to the Glasgow iron and shipping agent Thomas Dawson, at Meadowbank, Uddingston, Lanarkshire. Following Dawson’s death, worked as a landscape gardener in Glasgow and Manchester. Founding member of the Manchester and North of England Orchid Society. Editor of the Northern Gardener.
