Moncure Daniel Conway

1832–1907

American preacher and author. Pastor of the Unitarian Church, Washington, until 1856, when he was dismissed because of his outspoken anti-slavery views. Preacher at the First Congregational Church, Cincinnati, until 1862, when he became editor of the Boston anti-slavery newspaper Commonwealth. Moved to Britain in 1863 and, in addition to writing and public speaking, was pastor at the South Place Chapel, Finsbury, London, until 1884, and 1892–7.
