Apus is right.—2

I meant for compositor the words “I have not read this revise of Ch. XX.” Alter it words into “I have not read the text in this sheet”, so responsibility is thrown on compositor. You need not read the text. Send proofs to Printers by very first Post.—

I shd like 2d vol of Descent returned, as I may want any day to refer to it—3

In November 1874, George published a review of William Dwight Whitney’s ‘Darwinism and language’ (Whitney 1874) titled ‘Professor Whitney on the origin of language’ in the Contemporary Review (G. H. Darwin 1874c). In his review, he defended CD in his debate with Friedrich Max Müller (see Radick 2008, p. 47).
