Darwin Correspondence Project

To James Crichton-Browne   8 October 1874

Down, | Beckenham, Kent.

Oct. 8th

My dear Sir

I am very much obliged for the W. Riding Asylum Report.— I see that there is an article with an excellent photograph by you, & I am sure to read this & I daresay others with interest.1

My dear Sir | Yours very faithfully | Ch. Darwin

CD refers to Crichton-Browne’s article ‘Acute dementia’ in the West Riding Lunatic Asylum Medical Reports (Crichton-Browne 1874); several volumes of these reports are in the Darwin Library–CUL, but CD’s copy of this volume has not been found. A photograph of a patient suffering from the condition is in ibid., opposite p. 265.
