Darwin Correspondence Project

From John Lubbock   6 November [1868]1

15, Lombard Street. E.C.

6 Nov

Dear Mr. Darwin

I never dreamt of asking you to ride to Bromley, that would indeed have been a cool request.2

Does it make any difference to you what time you poll? if not we should like to get our doubtful voters made sure of in the morning as I have no fear of your being bribed or intoxicated by the afternoon!

If however you prefer to poll yourself first, we shall still be very glad of the carriage afterwards.

Yours most sincerely | John Lubbock

Footnotes

The year is established by the relationship between this letter and the letter from John Lubbock, 2 November [1868].
CD’s reply to Lubbock’s letter requesting the use of his carriage has not been found (see letter from John Lubbock, 2 November [1868]). Bromley, a market town near Down, was the polling place where CD would have voted.

Summary

Arrangements for polling.
