My dear Sir

Footnotes

The year is established by the relationship between this letter and the letter from W. S. Dallas, 8 December 1867.
The errors listed by CD were in the proof-sheets of Variation and were identified by William Sweetland Dallas, who was indexing the work. See letter from W. S. Dallas, 8 December 1867 and nn. 1–3.
The corrections were not incorporated into the first German edition (Carus trans. 1868, 1: 130, 342, 351), but were incorporated into the second (Carus trans. 1873, 1: 114–15, 306, 314); ‘Anser Ægyptiacus’ was printed as ‘Anser aegyptica’. These names are synonyms of Alopochen aegyptiaca (the Egyptian goose).
See n. 2, above.
