I now enclose cheque £5 in payment of Interest for the past year receipt of which kindly acknowledge & oblige2

CD’s letter of 8 February 1866 has not been found. See, however, letter to Frederick Ransome, [6 February 1866] and n. 2, and letter from Frederick Ransome, 7 February 1866.
The last entry relating to Ransome’s company in CD’s Investment book (Down House MS) is dated 2 March 1866, and records a payment of £5 for one year’s interest on a loan.
