Darwin Correspondence Project

To Richard Kippist   6 May [1864]

Down Bromley Kent

May 6th

My dear Sir

I enclose a paper by Mr J. Scott, which it seems to me is well worth communicating to the Linn. Socy.—1 It will be dry to read aloud, but the facts seem to me very curious.—2

My dear Sir | Yours very sincerely | Ch. Darwin

The reference is to the manuscript of Scott 1864b. John Scott sent the manuscript with his letter to CD of 5 May [1864]. Scott’s paper was read before the Linnean Society on 2 June 1864. Kippist, who was librarian of the Linnean Society, also performed many of the functions of a secretary to the society (Gage 1938).

Gage, Andrew Thomas. 1938. A history of the Linnean Society of London. London: Linnean Society of London.

Recommends paper by John Scott to be read at Linnean Society.
