From the Misses Horner   [17 March 1837 – 28 December 1838]

The Botanists present their best thanks to Mr Darwin for his kindness in advancing them in their pursuit by sending them a book with such interesting plates and which they intend to study with great attention.—

The learned Linguists feel also grateful for Mr Darwin’s generous assistance.— Ki te kahore hoki he mahi.1 Friday then 2 Bedford Place2

The residence of Mr and Mrs Leonard Horner and their daughters. CD had known Horner in Edinburgh. The acquaintance was probably renewed through Charles Lyell, who had married Horner’s daughter, Mary Elizabeth, in 1832.
