CD had been made an honorary doctor of medicine and surgery by the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Breslau (see Correspondence vol. 9, letter from the University of Breslau, 4 August 1861). The diploma is in DAR 229 (see Correspondence vol. 10, Appendix IX).
