Down—

13th

Dear Sir

Be so good as to send to 6 Queen Anne St.1 the numbers last published of the “North British Review” & of “Dublin Magazine of Natural History.”—2

Please enquire if a French Translation has ever appeared of “Unger’s, Versuch einer Geschichte der Pflanzen-Welt 1852”3 And if such Translation has appeared, please order it for me.—

Yours | C. Darwin

kindly inform me if there be no Translation—

Footnotes

The street numbers in Queen Anne Street were changed in the spring of 1860. The number of Erasmus Alvey Darwin’s house had formerly been 57.
There were unsigned reviews of Origin in the North British Review 32 (1860): 455–86 ([Duns] 1860) and in the Natural History Review 7 (1860): 23–32 ([Haughton] 1860b). CD wrote the names of the authors on his copies of the reviews, which are in the Darwin Pamphlet Collection–CUL.
Unger 1852. There is a copy of the work in the Darwin Library–CUL. Apparently no French translation of the work was ever issued. The recipient of the letter wrote ‘no’ next to CD’s request. CD had recorded the work in the ‘books to be read’ section of his reading notebook in 1852 (see Correspondence vol. 4, Appendix IV, 128*: 182).
