The first part of the German translation of Origin (Bronn trans. 1860) was published by E. Schweizerbart’sche Verlag, Stuttgart, on 4 April 1860 (Börsenblatt für den Deutschen Buchhandel 27 (1860): 683). CD received copies of the first part on 10 April (see letter to H. G. Bronn, 10 April [1860]).
The sixteenth edition of the Dictionnaire de l’Académie Fran˜cais was published in 1835. The next edition was not published until 1878.
Fleming and Tibbins 1841–4.
CD had a printed slip made for him giving the correct postal addresses for parcels and letters to Down. For a transcript, see Correspondence vol. 7, letter to Richard Owen, 10 December [1859], n. 5.
Greenoak was presumably a clerk in the London office of Williams and Norgate.
