My dear Henslow
I am delighted at your letter just received.
For fear of a mistake, I write to say the Train leaves London Bridge (N. Kent Division) at 5.20’—(not 5.30 ’) & remember how crowded near London Bridge is.— Our last visitors missed the Train.— We will send you back at any hour on Friday you like.

Dated by the reference to Henslow’s proposed visit to Down. Although this letter and the following two letters to John Lubbock, 11 August [1857] and 12 [August 1857], give no indication of the year in which they were written, it is clear from the letter to J. D. Hooker, 1 August [1857], that Henslow’s visit took place in 1857.
