The date range is established by the form of the address, which was used by CD between 1842 and 1846, June to December 1853, and October 1855 to March 1869, and by Bakewell’s age (he was born in 1831). The recipient is established by an annotation, ‘Dr Bakewell’, on the letter.
Bakewell’s letter has not been found, and the case has not been identified.
