Darwin Correspondence Project

To R. F. Cooke   [after 25 October 1881?]1

Down, Beckenham, Kent | (Railway Station, Orpington S.E.R.)

My dear Sir

I have no corrections. I am extremely pleased at the sale of my book and utterly astonished.2 I declare that the publication of a book is nothing better or worse than a gambling transaction! and we are all gamblers!

Yours very sincerely | Ch. Darwin
