June 12.

Dear Sir,

I write to thank you for the exceedingly kind letter you have written me about the extracts from your book.2

I am sorry that I have been the cause of giving you so much trouble, but I am very much obliged to you for writing to Mr. Murray.3

I am endeavouring to make these Readers more interesting than such books often are, and, as far as is possible in a great number of selections, to give the children a taste of books only that are really valuable—

With many thanks | Believe me | Yours faithfully | R. F. Charles

Chas: Darwin Esq.
