Darwin Correspondence Project

To Francis Darwin   [12 October 1876]

[Bassett, Southampton.]

I saw the notice about Empetrum.1 Emp. nigrum is the Crowberry. A trailing plant, with leaves very like a Heath; bears black berries— sure to grow high up on mountains of Wales.

C. D.

(I cannot understand how leaves in bud can act as fly-catchers.)

Footnotes

For the notice on Empetrum nigrum (the crowberry), see the letter from Francis Darwin, [after 8 October 1876] and n. 5.

Summary

Has seen notice on Empetrum but cannot understand how leaves in bud could act as fly-catchers.
